Sun bleached Dolomite rear seat remedy?

Post  Stan Part on Sun Jul 27, 2008 5:35 pm

Something I have found that I want to share with fellow members is this.

I have chestnut fabric seats in my car, they have been badly sun bleached, to the extent that they have changed from a very deep chocolate brown (can be seen on the arm rest which hasn't been bleached) to a light brown (almost pink in places).

It has annoyed me for sometime and after changing the covers on the front seats to some that are in better condition (and still deep brown) it made the rear seat back even more obvious.

I have obtained some fabric paint (found via the internet) in chestnut brown from here and have been applying it to the rear seat with excellent results:

I think you can see the difference!

I apply the paint with a small brush which is almost dry to touch. First applying the paint to a rag then wiping the brush in the paint and brushing it onto the rag until it almost dry before applying it to the seat fabric. It's a long process but does produce a result where you can blend the paint into the original colour of the seat further down.

Of course it cannot remedy seats where the material has broken up but it certainly brings the original colour back without spoiling the seat fabric.

Once it has been applied you warm it with a hairdryer which makes the fabric "tufts" (for a better word) stand up again. and is soft to the trouch. Heating it also makes it colour fast - though that really isn't an issue.

As I say, just wanted to share a tip with fellow members as the company also sells a paint in black which may help those with "charcole" coloured seats.

Looks like a fantastic product, I know my dolly has not seen the light of day for a few years but it would be nice to have black seats again when it does make it back on the road - where can you buy this product? Will be interested to find out how long it lasts for too...
